The
first show of the 2004 tour was a great one,
thanks to
Tom Hazelmyer, his wife Lisa, and the rest of
the Ox-Op crew.
Tom, aka HAZE XXL, owner of Amphetamine
Reptile Records, current artist, restaurant/bar
owner, etc., is a busy, busy man...and dedicated
to making Ox-Op exceptional. (Tom is also behind
the Zippo
lighter that Mark Mothersbaugh designed).
Grumpy's
Bar & Grill, which
is in the same building as the gallery, offers
incredible food & drinks.
It's definitely a must-see if you're ever in
Minneapolis.
Mark was again bound by movie-scoring duties
during the busy post-holiday weekend and couldn't
attend, unfortunately, but did manage to chat
with a few gallery visitors via phone during
the reception.
The show opened promptly at 7pm, and the gallery
was instantly packed with eager patrons from
wall to wall. Many interesting people showed
up, including the youngest Devo fan I've ever
met (21 months
old!), as well as old friends of Mark from
many years ago.
Ox-Op invited Mark to be part of the upcoming
QEE doll show, which will include other spectacular
artists like Kozik, Gary Baseman, Shag, Pizz,
Coop, Glenn Barr, Clayton Brothers, and many
more.
We'll be back in Minneapolis later in 2004 for
a show at Creative
Electric Studios, featuring a new selection
of Beautiful Mutants imagery, so we're looking
forward to more fun times in Minnesota.
Check the Tour Dates
page for specific info on a reception date.
Big thanks to OX-OP and Grumpy's Bar & Grill
for filling our eyes and stomachs with mighty
good stuff. Hope to see you all very, very soon.
Ox-Op rules, OK?
